Participants will learn the basics of bundle dyeing with natural materials. We will work with natural dyes including local, everyday dyestuffs like onion and avocado skins and sourced materials like madder root and logwood. Participants will also learn how to choose and prepare textiles for dyeing, how the process of bundle dyeing extracts color from natural materials, and how to fix color to cloth.

While the bundles are steaming we will experiment with natural dye modifiers like vinegar, soda ash, and iron to see how the addition of these elements can affect naturally dyed textiles.

Everyone will leave with a bundle dyed scarf, a collection of naturally dyed swatches, and the knowledge of how to bundle dye at home.
